My father and his doctor were concerned about my his cholesterol.  The possibility of statin drugs were becoming a regular part of their conversation.  In a last ditch effort, my Dad began researching foods that help naturally lower cholesterol.  My Dad decided to eat a handful of pistachio nuts each day.  Upon returning to the doctor’s office, both he and his physician of many years were amazed at the decrease of his cholesterol.

Pistachio nuts are a wonderful snack for the whole family. Eaten within reasonable quantities, pistachios provide your body with nutrients, such as thiamin, potassium, fiber, phytosterols, magnesium and vitamin B6? Additionally, pistachios contain high amounts of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, which have been linked to improving cholesterol levels and promoting heart health. In a nutshell (pun intended), pistachios raise your good cholesterol, or HDL.

Interestingly enough, pistachios are high in calories, however during studies, people who added a handful of pistachios to their daily routine did not have significant weight gain.

Unless you’re allergic to pistachio nuts, be sure to pick up a big bag of pistachios on your next grocery  trip!
