• One loaf of Challah or Portuguese Sweet Bread
  • Butter and canola oil
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon pure almond extract
  • Zest of one lemon, lime or orange
  • Freshly ground nutmeg, about 1/2 teaspoon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pure maple syrup
  • Whipping Cream
  • 1 pt. heavy whipping cream
  • A few drops of Stevia or a little powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • Fresh berries

It’s hard to say if this is a breakfast or a dessert — it’s that good!

For French Toast

In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, almond extract, nutmeg and ground cinnamon.

Using a serrated knife, cut your challah bread into 1 inch wide pieces. Place two or three pieces of bread at a time into your egg mixture; allow each side of your bread to soak for 2 to 3 minutes.

Heat a frying pan with a little butter and oil and over medium/high heat; brown both sides of your French toast.  Adding a little canola oil prevents the butter from burning.

Make my quick  homemade whipping cream for the top and garnish with fresh berries. Drizzle French Toast with pure maple syrup, add a dollop of homemade whipped cream and finish with fresh berries…enjoy!

Homemade Whipping Cream

We’ve enjoyed this with our pancakes and many other meals and desserts like waffles and pies. We’ve also enjoyed it on top of hot chocolate!
