- 2 cups all-purpose unbleached flour, plus a little extra for rolling

- 1/2 cup very cold salted butter, cut into tiny cubes
- 2/3 cups buttermilk
There’s nothing quite like the smell of freshly baked biscuits on a Saturday morning or any morning for that matter! I remember my boys sitting in front of our oven, watching the biscuits rise. Baking Powder Biscuits, as they are sometimes called, take no time at all to make. Whether eaten plainly, with a little softened butter, served with a dollop of jam or jelly or smothered in a good-old southern favorite, Sausage Gravy, these biscuits will delight every member of your family.
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. Spray a stone baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
In a food processor, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Pulse a couple of times and add cubes of cold butter. Pulse until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Place in large mixing bowl and add buttermilk. Stir with a fork just until mixed and turn onto your clean counter dusted with a little bench flour. Gather the mixture with your hands and once it comes together begin to knead the dough. Roll dough out into 1/2-inch thickness. Dip your biscuit cutter in a little flour, press straight down to cut and then straight up. Twisting the biscuit cutter will interfere with the rising of your biscuits and we certainly do not want that!
You can use up the scraps of the dough and knead a second or two then cut a couple more biscuits, but these biscuits will be a bit tougher than the rest – still delicious though!
Bake in a 400 degree F oven for about ten minutes or until the dough has risen adn the top is a slightly browned. Enjoy!
